What we collect
AlterCV is a CV tailoring service operated at altercv.com. We collect the minimum needed to run it, and this section lists all of it.
- Account data. Your email address, and your name if you provide one. Passwords are stored hashed by our identity provider — we never see them.
- CV content you upload. The text of your CV and any job description you paste in, held only as long as needed to score and tailor the document. It is never used to train any model, ours or anyone else’s.
- Usage counters. How many alters, cover letters and exports you have used, so we can apply plan limits.
- Job application activity. If you use the Visa Sponsorship Jobs board, we record which listings you clicked apply on, so you can see your own history. We do not send applications on your behalf.
- Applicant contact details. If you complete the pre-apply form, we store the name, country and phone number you enter, so you do not have to re-type them.
- Payment data. Handled entirely by Razorpay. We never see or store card or bank details.
- Server logs. IP address, user agent and timestamps, retained up to 30 days for abuse prevention.
What we never do
- We do not sell your personal data. There is no arrangement under which anyone pays us for it.
- We do not train models on your CV.
- We do not email you marketing you did not ask for.
- We do not share your CV with employers. When you apply, you do that on the employer’s own site.
How long we keep it
- CV and job description text: deleted when you delete the document, and in any case within 30 days of account deletion.
- Account record: until you delete your account.
- Server logs: up to 30 days.
- Payment records: retained by our payment processor for the period their financial regulations require.
Your rights — GDPR and CCPA
Wherever you live, you can ask us to do the following, and we will:
- Access. Get a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectify. Correct anything inaccurate.
- Erase. Delete your account and associated data.
- Port. Receive your data in a machine-readable format.
- Object and restrict. Object to processing, or ask us to restrict it.
- Opt out of sale. Not applicable — we do not sell personal data — but the right stands.
Email support@altercv.com with the subject “Privacy”. We acknowledge within 1 business day and complete formal requests within 30 days. You will not be charged, and we will not treat you differently for asking.
If you are in the EU or UK and are unhappy with our response, you may complain to your national data protection authority.
Children and changes
AlterCV is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us personal data, email us and we will delete it.
If we change this policy materially we will update the date at the top of this page and, for changes that affect how we use data you have already given us, notify signed-in users by email. Continued use after a change means you accept the revised policy.
