Privacy Policy
AlterCV (operated as a service at altercv.com) takes your privacy seriously. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what we never do.
What we collect
- Account data: email address, full name (if provided), password (stored hashed by our identity provider).
- Usage data: number of CV alters, cover letters, exports, plan tier. Stored in your browser localStorage and on our servers tied to your user ID.
- Resume content you submit: stored only as long as needed to score and tailor your CV. Not used to train any model.
- Payment data: handled entirely by Razorpay. We never see or store your card or bank details.
- Standard server logs: IP, user agent, timestamps. Retained for up to 30 days for abuse prevention.
What we never do
- We do not sell your data.
- We do not share your CV content with third parties.
- We do not train AI models on your data.
- We do not embed third-party trackers beyond what is required for analytics, ads, and core service operation (see Cookies below).
Third-party services we rely on
- Netlify for hosting and identity (authentication).
- Razorpay for payment processing.
- Anthropic for AI-assisted CV scoring and rewriting.
- Google AdSense for advertising on free pages.
- Contentful for blog content delivery.
Your rights
You can request a copy, correction, or deletion of your data at any time by emailing support@altercv.com. We will respond within 14 days.

Terms of Service
What AlterCV provides
AlterCV is a software service that scores and tailors resumes against job descriptions across 15 country formats. Plans, prices, and quotas are described on our pricing page.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Submit content you do not have the right to use.
- Use AlterCV to misrepresent qualifications or fabricate experience.
- Reverse-engineer, scrape, or resell the service.
- Abuse the API or sign-up flow with automated scripts.
Subscriptions and billing
- Subscriptions auto-renew monthly until cancelled.
- You can cancel anytime from your profile page or by emailing support@altercv.com.
- Cancellation stops the next billing cycle. The current cycle remains active until its end.
- Quotas reset on the first day of each calendar month.
Disclaimer
AlterCV is a tool, not a guarantee. We do not promise specific job outcomes. Scoring reflects ATS readiness based on patterns observed in major systems and may differ from any specific employer.
Limitation of liability
AlterCV's total liability for any claim related to the service is limited to the amount you paid in the prior 12 months. We are not liable for lost opportunities, lost wages, or consequential damages.
Termination
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with prior notice unless the violation is severe.

Security Practices
Transport and storage
- All traffic to and from AlterCV uses HTTPS with modern TLS.
- Authentication is handled by Netlify Identity (gotrue), which stores password hashes — never plaintext passwords.
- Payment processing happens entirely on Razorpay's PCI-compliant infrastructure. Card data never reaches AlterCV servers.
Account security
- Passwords must be at least 8 characters.
- Sessions are protected by secure HTTP-only cookies.
- You can sign out at any time from any device on the profile page.
Reporting a vulnerability
If you believe you have found a security issue, please email support@altercv.com with the subject line "Security." We aim to acknowledge reports within 48 hours.

GDPR & CCPA
Your rights under GDPR (EU residents)
- Right to access — request a copy of your data.
- Right to rectification — ask us to correct inaccuracies.
- Right to erasure — ask us to delete your account and data.
- Right to portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format.
- Right to object — opt out of processing for marketing.
- Right to restrict — pause processing while we resolve a query.
Your rights under CCPA (California residents)
- Right to know what personal information we collect, how we use it, and who we share it with.
- Right to delete personal information we have collected.
- Right to opt out of any sale of personal information. AlterCV does not sell personal information.
- Right to non-discrimination for exercising any CCPA right.

Refund Policy
The 7-day refund window
If you are not satisfied with a paid AlterCV plan within 7 days of your first payment on that plan, email support@altercv.com with the subject "Refund" and your registered email. We will issue a full refund to your original payment method within 7 business days.
What is not refundable
- Payments older than 7 days.
- Plans where you have used more than 50% of the monthly alter, export, or cover-letter quota.
- Renewal charges after the first month — these are subject to the cancel-anytime policy. Cancel before the next billing date to avoid the next charge.
How to cancel
Open your profile page, choose "Manage plan," then "Cancel subscription," or email support@altercv.com. Cancellation stops the next renewal; the current month remains active.
Failed payments
If a payment fails (card declined, network error), no plan upgrade is applied and no refund is needed. Contact us if you see a charge but no upgrade and we will investigate.
