Why this exists
Most CV advice is generic and most job applications are invisible. Two problems sit behind that, and AlterCV is built around both.
The first is that a CV written for a person is read by a machine. Applicant tracking systems parse your document into fields before a human sees it, and a strong candidate with a badly structured document loses to a weaker one with a cleaner file. That is not a fair filter, but it is the filter, and it is fixable.
The second is more specific and, to us, more infuriating. Millions of skilled people apply for jobs abroad every year and never hear back — often because the employer was never able to sponsor a work visa in the first place. That information frequently exists in public government records. Nobody was putting it next to the job advert. So we did.
What the tools actually do
CV scoring and tailoring
You upload a CV and paste in a job description. AlterCV scores the match, identifies the requirements your document does not currently answer, and rewrites and reformats it into a chosen template. You get an editable document, not a black box — every change is yours to accept, edit or discard, and you should read it before sending it anywhere.
Resume templates
Every template on the site is an original A4 document design with real print styles, page-break handling and an export that a parser can read. They all draw from the same underlying content, so you can write once and change design afterwards without retyping anything.
Visa sponsorship jobs
We poll employers’ own public job feeds every day, resolve the country of each role, and check the employer against the official government sponsor sources where one exists. A role is published only when we can point at the evidence behind it. Everything else is discarded — which is why some countries on the site have guides and no listings, and we would rather say that than pad the board.
Rules we hold ourselves to
- We never present an employer’s claim as government-verified. Where a country publishes no sponsor register, we say so on the page.
- We do not scrape job boards. Listings come from employers’ own public feeds — never from LinkedIn, Indeed or Glassdoor, whose terms forbid it.
- We publish nothing we cannot evidence. When a signal turned out to be weak — adverts offering relocation support, which is a moving allowance and not sponsorship — we removed it and lost 28% of the board rather than keep it.
- Your CV is not training data. Ever.
- We are not immigration advisers. We show you what the public record says and link you to the official source. The decision is yours.
Who runs it
AlterCV is an independent product, not a division of a larger recruitment company, and it is not affiliated with any employer, job board or government department listed on the site. We have no commercial relationship with the employers whose roles appear on the board and are not paid to feature any of them.
The site is funded by paid plans and by advertising. Advertising never influences which roles are listed or how they are labelled — those are decided by the evidence rules above and nothing else.
Questions, corrections and complaints all go to the same place: our contact page.
